Under the general supervision of the Town Administrator, this position will perform receptionist, utility billing, accounts payable and receivable activities. Selected candidate will assist with bookkeeping, payroll, planning commission, and must have excellent customer service skills. The Utility Billing Clerk/Administrative Assistant is hired and supervised by the Town Administrator/Clerk; this is a non-exempt position under FLSA with a pay range of $15.00 to $17.00 per hour DOE with a competitive benefits package. This position is generally scheduled 8am – 4:30 pm, Monday - Friday. This position may require attendance at a minimum of one evening meeting per month.

Position Summary:

The Utility Billing Clerk/Administrative Assistant is responsible for performing a variety of clerical, technical bookkeeping and accounting functions. A customer oriented person with high work standards; who is detailed orientated and a team player to serve as front desk receptionist. Processes monthly Utility Billing, processes Accounts Payable/Receivables, updates Town Website, assist Planning Commission Staff and serves as backup for payroll.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The below list is intended to be illustrative of the responsibilities of the position and not all encompassing. The Town may change these duties at any time.

  • Serves as the cashier/receptionist and provides general clerical support regarding customer service, accepting payments, providing directions, handling mail and other related duties.

  • Maintains utility billing and accounts receivable system. Coordinates automated meter reading including all follow-ups and scheduling. Tracks delinquencies and oversees distribution of late notices, shut off orders, and liens.

  • Processes accounts payable.

  • Ensures integrity of data in the Town’s accounting system, and general ledger entries.

  • Updates and maintains Town Website.

  • Assistant to Planning Commission Staff.

  • Performs related work as required and assigned.

Required Education, Training and Experience:

To be considered for this position you must have the following qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED)

  • One to Two years of bookkeeping experience required.

  • Experience in a customer service environment required.

  • Computer literate, with typing speed of 50 wpm and proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel, Email and Internet.

  • Possess a Colorado Driver’s License

  • Able to obtain and maintain Notary Certification through the State of Colorado.

  • Continually seeks to improve job skills through education and training.

A combination of education and experience may be considered.

  • Ability to deal effectively with the public. Skill in interpersonal relations and written and oral communication sufficient to sooth irate citizens and communicate with Board Members.
