NWS Flood Coordination Call

Subject: NWS Flood Coordination Call Update

Attached is today's presentation from the National Weather Service that was reviewed on the weekly high-water coordination call between emergency managers and the National Weather Service. The general message was there is still a lot of snow on the mountains and a high potential for flooding exists for the next two weeks if the temperature continues to rise. After this week we return to above normal precipitation and cooler than normal temperatures. They mentioned the Gunnison River in Delta and the NWS and Bureau of Reclamation are working together to ensure it remains below action stage through Delta, a flood advisory has been issued in Mesa County for the Colorado and Gunnison Rivers there.

The latest hydrographs for Surface Creek at and above Cedaredge area attached and we are close to action stage above town at 3.71' and action stage is 4'. Mesa County will be sharing some river safety tips with emergency managers that they are putting out and it was encouraged that we share them with the public to encourage people to stay off the river without proper rafts, safety gear and experienced rafters. As soon as I receive these PSAs I will share with Darnell and we will push them out.
