Delta County and the City of Delta recently had a joint work session to discuss several items such as Blake Field Airport and the Delta Public Library Building, as was recently reported in the Delta County Independent.
Delta County brought to the City of Delta the possibility of acquiring the Delta Public Library building, as the need for a jail expansion is critical. The idea was floated that the Sheriff’s Office could move to the library, which would allow for a remodel of the jail to increase capacity.
The Commissioners and City Council also discussed, in length, the replacement of the current library, with a state of the art, more modern facility that would provide for more use of space, be ADA compliant, and would be more financially manageable for the Library District. A committee of County, City, and Library District representatives will be put together to continue the discussion.
No decisions were made by either the Commissioners, or City Council, in the June 17, 2020 joint work session.
