Community Meals
Appetizing and nutritious meals are served at noon in a pleasant, social atmosphere at various community or senior centers throughout our service area.
Home Delivered Meals
Meals are available for home bound elderly, aged 60 and over, on regular service days from all meal sites. Modified diet menus for diabetics, those convalescing or others with special dietary available both at meals sites and home delivered. Home delivered meals are hand delivered by many, many generous volunteers.
Nutrition Education Diet Counseling
A Registered Dietitian reviews and approves all menus to assure that one third of the Recommended Dietary Allowances for the 60+ age group is met. Our menus also must meet the US Dietary Guidelines which limit fat, cholesterol and sodium content. Diet counseling is available to program participants with special needs. nutrition education materials are distributed regularly at all meal sites.
Voluntary Contributions
While there is no charge for services offered by Columbine, we do ask for contributions. Contributions are vital to our ability to meet the needs of the people we serve and the only way in which we can improve services.
- All contributions are voluntary and confidential.
- Low-income participants may contribute less than the recommended contribution if necessary.
- No one will be denied service because of an inability to pay.
Liquid Nutritional Supplements
Many liquid nutritional supplements are available to regular program participants upon a physician's written prescription. also, based on a physician's order, they may serve as a sole source of nutrition.
Outreach
There are many senior citizens in our service area who have never taken advantage of our agency's programs. Our staff tries to reach them with information on these and many other services which are available for seniors in Region 10. We would appreciate help in locating people 60 years of age or older who may benefit from the services we provide.
Information and Referral
If help is needed in locating the source of benefits or services you or others may need, call the Columbine number nearest you or our main office in Delta at 874-7661. We will find the answer to your question or direct you to the appropriate agency. Referrals to other agencies are made only upon your approval.
Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteers of all ages are needed, and necessary, in the various services that Columbine offers. The extent to which our services are made available depends on volunteer assistance. For people of retirement age who do not need these services for themselves, Columbine offers many opportunities to lend a helping hand to others.
Transportation Services
Transportation is available for senior citizens in Region 10. Rides for grocery shopping, errands, doctor appointments and to and from the meal sites are available in many areas. These services are provided by County Councils on Aging and can be accessed by calling the Community or Senior Center nearest you.
Columbine Senior Services, Inc. is a Colorado private, not for profit 501(c)(3) corporation which serves Older Americans, age 60 or older and their spouses and provide community based services to assist possible physical & mental health, regardless of their economic status.
Who provides the funding?
You do! Although Columbine's Nutrition Programs receive some federal funding through the Older Americans Act, the largest source of funds is donations for services and in support of serve ices. Funds are used to provide services to persons 60 years of age or older and their spouses, with special emphasis on reaching those with the greatest socio-economic needs. Services include:
